{"id":2612,"date":"1976-01-15T22:09:25","date_gmt":"1976-01-15T20:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.italdesign.it\/project\/new-york-taxi\/"},"modified":"2024-10-21T17:23:08","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T15:23:08","slug":"new-york-taxi","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/www.italdesign.it\/en\/project\/new-york-taxi\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Taxi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Designed on invitation from the New York Museum of Modern Art for the exhibition &#8220;The Taxi Project: realistic solutions for today&#8221;, it is a clean, compact and secure container for urban transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to super cars, the New York Taxi represents a breakthrough in Giugiaro&#8217;s design philosophy: pure aesthetical research gives way to <strong>pure functional study.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The theme proposed by <strong>New York MoMA<\/strong> is the occasion for a study of a vehicle for i<strong>ndividual urban transportation<\/strong>. The New York Taxi offers accommodation for <strong>five passengers<\/strong>, the driver and plenty of room for baggage in a lenght of just four meters.<\/p>\n<p>First and foremost this design is a container for individual urban transportation. <strong>The beauty<\/strong> of its shape was of <strong>secondary importance. <\/strong>The area available to passengers is about 2 square meters, but compared to a classic New York yellow cab, the New York Taxi occupies <strong>30% less area<\/strong> due to the great increase in the proportion in height, about 400 mm. <strong>Oceans of glass<\/strong> provide perfect visibility and a <strong>plate-glass window in the middle of the roof<\/strong> treats the passengers to a panoramic view of the sky.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong>\u00a0sliding\u00a0passenger door<\/strong> eases entry and leaves the door opening completely free from street obstructions.
