Compact, rational, eco-friendly, electric and designed for traffic in the historical centres of great cities: car sharing par excellence.<\/p>\n

The Biga<\/b>, introduced at the 1992 Turin motor show <\/b>dates back to a design submitted by Giorgetto<\/b> Giugiaro<\/b> in 1989 to the “Assises Mondiales de l’Automobile” in Paris on these theme\u00a0 of “what cars<\/b> for the year 2000″.<\/p>\n

The Biga<\/b> was therefore created as a specific and realistic eco-friendly<\/b> alternative that could be mass-produced<\/b> for town traffic<\/b>.<\/p>\n

It was the outcome of a close and rational analysis of the financial<\/b>, environmental<\/b> and social scenario<\/b>; not a research prototype with futuristic, inaccessible lines but a car<\/b> reduced to the essentials<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Designed with a view to future legal restrictions <\/b>that would limit access <\/b>by private<\/b> cars<\/b> to the historical<\/b> centres<\/b> of cities, the, Biga<\/b> is part of a more extensive project aimed at traffic management<\/b>. The Biga<\/b> is therefore not merely a car<\/b> for the city<\/b> but also of the city: access<\/b> on board is allowed by means of a personal card <\/b>recorded in a database<\/b>.\u00a0 Users may take a Biga<\/b>\u00a0 from designated parking spaces<\/b>, use it and re-park<\/b> it in other dedicated parking spots<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Because it was designed for this particular use, Biga<\/b> is a minimalist<\/b> car<\/b>; everything superfluous<\/b> has been removed. The body<\/b> is in special steels <\/b>that guarantee lightness<\/b> and sturdiness<\/b>. The passenger compartment<\/b> is a sort of cube designed to house the driver<\/b> and three passengers<\/b> or the driver and one passenger in a wheelchair<\/b> due to a bench<\/b> located on one side of the car<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Access<\/b> is via a single tailgate<\/b> at the rear<\/b>, exactly as on a Roman chariot<\/b>. This makes it possible to optimise<\/b> spaces<\/b> around town<\/b>: the deal parking spot<\/b> is at right angles to and not parallel to the pavement so that passengers<\/b> can get out directly onto the pavement. The height of the car<\/b> is also designed to facilitate entry with a wheelchair<\/b> as much as possible. Because it does not have any side doors<\/b>, Bigas<\/b> may be parked next to one another without having to take up room for opening conventional doors<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Approximately 2 m in length and one and a half metres wide, the Biga<\/b> is equipped with a hybrid system <\/b>made up of a small diesel<\/b> engine<\/b> coupled with an alternator<\/b> that supplies energy<\/b> to the batteries<\/b> to guarantee traction<\/b> and transmission<\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
