The Touareg, inspired by desert was the ideal vehicle to get you to your own oasis, even after sunset.<\/p>\n

Inspired by a trip<\/b> to the Libyan<\/b> desert<\/b>, the Touareg<\/b> was a vehicle<\/b> that satisfied all the basic functions <\/b>of an automobile<\/b> in an essential package <\/b>from which all superfluous elements had been stripped.<\/p>\n

Starting from an off-road concept<\/b>, a chassis<\/b> was created that incorporated the engine<\/b> and a 4 wheel drive mechanical configuration<\/b>. This led to the development of a tubular steel structure <\/b>and hi-tech joints <\/b>designed to create a protective cell <\/b>for driver<\/b> and passengers<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The various body panels <\/b>(in steel mesh<\/b>, perforated aluminium<\/b>, plastic<\/b> or glass<\/b>, according to the use of the vehicle<\/b>) could be fastened to the chassis<\/b> by means<\/b> of ordinary bolts<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The engine<\/b> was fitted with an ordinary carburettor<\/b> and instead of sophisticated electronic systems <\/b>it featured ordinary wiring <\/b>that was easier to repair in the event of critical environmental conditions<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Since it did not have a conventional body<\/b>, the Touareg<\/b> did not have any interior temperature heating <\/b>or air conditioning systems<\/b>. A roof designed <\/b>to protect against the sun aided air recirculation <\/b>while a  bonnet<\/b> perforated on one side not only helped with the cooling<\/b> but also revealed a classic 6 litre, 8 cylinder, 250 hp GM engine<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The innovative lighting system <\/b>was based on a single type of lamp adopted <\/b>for front, rear (painted red) and additional lighting<\/b>, fitted on a roll bar<\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
