The project focused around designing the interior and exterior configuration of the Minuetto, the line of passenger-car trains earmarked to serve interregional stretches across Italy with frequent stops at railway stations.<\/p>\n
With a keen eye focused around linking perceived quality<\/b> to production performance<\/b>, keeping down costs<\/b> and bringing a note of elegance<\/b> to regional services<\/b>, the project called for upstream research to meet the needs and technical specifications <\/b>set by the Customer<\/b> –Trenitalia<\/b> \u2013 and the Constructor \u2013 Alstom Ferroviaria<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Once sketches<\/b> and pre-feasibility<\/b> technical drawings <\/b>had been completed, computer simulations <\/b>and scale models <\/b>were put in place for the multiple-unit bodyshell <\/b>and the driving cab<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Almost like urban tramcar applications<\/b>, contemplated to surround the front of the train<\/b> was a large, flat windshield ensuring traindriver<\/b> panoramic viewing<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Given frequent stops at railway stations <\/b>along the railroad routes <\/b>and passenger traffic flows<\/b>, clear and careful focus was steered towards defining ways to ensure easy car-carriage access<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Also put in place to assess the car-carriage functional qualities <\/b>for easy access <\/b>and passenger comfort <\/b>was a real scale mock-up equipped <\/b>with all fittings<\/b> and fixtures<\/b>, seating<\/b>, special zones reserved for disabled passenger wheelchairs<\/b>, multifunctional storage areas <\/b>for transporting bulky luggage<\/b>, bicycles<\/b>, skis<\/b>\u2026<\/p>\n
Visited by thousands<\/b> of people<\/b>, the mock-up<\/b> was exhibited by Trenitalia<\/b> at many locations across the national territory <\/b>and illustrated to the regional Public Administrations<\/b>, possible Minuetto<\/b> regional fleet customers<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The Minuetto<\/b> train-set<\/b> steps into the limelight by way of an aerodynamic fronted train<\/b>, with rounded surfacing <\/b>ribbed by channel grooves and recessed shallows inserted in which are functional elements <\/b>such as lamps and lights, automatic couplet, etc.<\/p>\n
Graphics<\/b> along the side of the train<\/b> are dominated by what seems to be a “seamless<\/b> and flowing brush stroke<\/b>“, matching up with section above: the seamless and flowing motif across the colored stripe <\/b>is gentle to the eye and camouflages the differentiated spacing and heights of the windows<\/b>, doors<\/b> and technical paneling<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The concept<\/b> running through the car interiors <\/b>is designed<\/b> towards offering superior passenger comfort <\/b>and easy carriage-to-carriage access <\/b>and “transparency”. Of course, the general philosophy<\/b> underscoring this concept complies, as and where applicable, with overall technical\/functional<\/b> dimension<\/b> restrictions<\/b> by putting in place fired-glass partitions<\/b>, bow-shaped<\/b> and upward tapering<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Other than the multifunctional zones<\/b>, also enriching the train<\/b>‘s layout <\/b>are “sitting-rooms<\/b>” furbished with comfortable armchairs<\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
