The Visconti\u00a0is a range leader that defies categorisation: almost a four-door coup\u00e9 with the\u00a0dimensions of a deluxe saloon.<\/p>\n

For the 2004 edition of the Geneva International motor show, Giugiaro<\/b> decided to come up with the shape<\/b> that he felt was most in keeping with an Alfa Romeo range leader<\/b>. Not a conventional<\/b> three-box, four-door saloon but a large sporting car <\/b>that was almost a hatchback, with a drooping tail end<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The starting point for the Visconti<\/b> was the Premium Platform<\/b>, developed by Alfa Romeo <\/b>as a base for the 156 saloon<\/b>, Sportwagon<\/b>, coup\u00e9<\/b> and spider<\/b>, a quartet of cars<\/b>, all created as a development<\/b> of the Brera concept car<\/b>. The aim for the Visconti<\/b> was to use an Alfa Romeo V6 3.2 litre biturbo petrol direct injection JTS<\/b>, capable of 405 hp of power and 680 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n

The 6-speed automatic transmission <\/b>included permanent four-wheel drive <\/b>with the rear wheels <\/b>also steering<\/b>, while vehicle stability <\/b>was guaranteed by a VDC system<\/b>, the Alfa Romeo <\/b>interpretation of\u00a0 ESP<\/b> \u2013 and also the use of active control <\/b>of the stabiliser bars<\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
