Honorary Degree to Fabrizio Giugiaro

The Award ceremony of an honorary degree to Fabrizio Giugiaro, Co-Chairman and Styling Director of Italdesign Giugiaro, was held on March 15, 2012 at the Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi.

The motivation expressed by the Academic Board states:

"For outstanding achievements in the fields of architecture and the technology of the automobile product and the research developed to promote a new way of designing the car of the future of low environmental impact, for his international contribution in the fields of architecture and design and support in the creation and promotion of the International School of design at the Georgian Technical University".

In his greeting to the many guests present at the ceremony, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador Federica Favi, the Georgian Ministers of Education and Sciences, Economy and Sustainable Development, together with the Minister of Infrastructure and other members of the government, the Dean, Prof. Dr. Archill Prangishvili, underlined "Fabrizio Giugiaro has introduced a work method based on an approach to style of a technical nature, and thanks to the countless styling practices proposed to the public from the very beginning, he soon proved to the experts of the automotive world his ability to handle the most diverse and challenging areas of car design: from structural architecture to the study of volumes and proportions, ergonomics, aerodynamics, aesthetics combined with technology and the choice of materials."

In his laudation Prof. Dr. Archill Prangishvili covered the stages of Fabrizio Giugiaro in over 25 years of activity: "He has collaborated with leading international car manufacturers, GM, Toyota and Hyundai, via Volkswagen, Fiat and BMW. But has also developed a business in the product design field, dealing with transportation such as trains, planes, boats, motorcycles, buses, trucks, as well as consumer goods, packaging, corporate identity, graphic design, working with national and international companies. Finally Fabrizio Giugiaro has invested in expertise and structures in architecture, interior design and urban design".

"It is an honour for me to be here in this wonderful developing city in order to share with you my experiences, emotions and thoughts matured in the last quarter-century, said Fabrizio Giugiaro - Drawing on experience from my father, I had the great opportunity to be able to make my passion my work, seeking, with the help of partners, customers and friends, to turn my ideas into reality.

The journey was long and was inundated with obstacles, but thanks to the tenacity and strong will that everyone must make to pursue their goals, with my company I was able to realize my dreams on a journey of style, design and innovation in the wake of tradition and the Italian love for all that is beautiful".
